Dear Parents and Student‐Athlete,

Welcome to the 2015-2016 Badminton season. Please take the time to read this season information letter carefully. We hope that this letter answers many of your questions. If not, feel free to contact the Athletic Director at anytime. The official SAISA season begins on Monday, November 9th.

This athletic season is open to any student who is enrolled in grades 6 through 12. Each season begins with try‐outs, and student-athletes that make it through the try‐out period will make up the team, although further reductions in squad numbers may then take place throughout the season. About a month into the season, a smaller number of athletes, up to 8 (4 boys and 4 girls), are then selected to participate in the SAISA championships in Mumbai, India. The coaches might also choose to retain one or two alternates, who may take the place of a participating member in case of injury, illness, or academic concerns (please see eligibility requirements in MS/HS Handbook or Athletic Handbook).

Beyond practice and academic requirements, student-athletes must also complete a SAISA Sports Eligibility Health History and Examination form, which includes a physical examination from a licensed physician. This examination is valid for all SAISA sports for the duration of one school year. Any individual who makes the team beyond the initial try-out sessions will be required to have this sports physical. Student-athletes will not be permitted to practice with the team if the completed form has not been submitted to the Health Office by Monday, November 16th.

There are 4 scheduled practices per week, and all athletes must attend every practice. These will be held on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 4-6pm.

If students are general bus users, and have paid the transportation fee, Lincoln School will provide transport before and after all scheduled practices. If families have not paid the transportation fee, but would like to use school transportation for SAISA practices, please contact the Athletic Director and/or Director.

Whether a practice day or not, students will be expected to:
  1. Be in good academic standing
  2. Refrain from use of drugs, tobacco and alcohol
  3. Be a good citizen & a positive role-model within the community

An infraction of number two will result in dismissal from the team.
An infraction of number three will be determined by school policy, and if a student is found to be clearly in breach of school rules, s/he may also be removed from the team.

As for academic standing, student-athletes that are having difficulties in certain classes may be limited to partial participation during the season. Lincoln School athletes are role models within the student community, and must be mindful of the responsibilities they have. If an athlete is unable to attend a practice, s/he should speak with the head coach. If a student is absent from school due to illness, it is helpful if a parent can c.c. the coach when using e-mail to inform the school secretary.
